Ex Cantibus Gaudium? No need to struggle with the Latin you learnt at school, it means Enjoyment Through Melody. Or at least, that’s our spin on it.

When you work with us it should be serious fun. What does that mean? Simple – we enjoy what we do and therefore if you’re working with us it should be enjoyable and easy. BUT (serious bit)… the goods must be delivered to your complete satisfaction, on time and in budget.

Our People

Robert Hartshorne

Robert Hartshorne

Robert has a fairly traditional musical heritage. Having achieved the supreme accolade of Grade 4 (Piano) at school, he then went on to study chemistry at Liverpool University. After 3 years and now armed with a magnificent II.II degree he decided that Chemistry was not really for him. Truth be told, he spent most of the 3 years playing in bands. Now set on a career in music, he joined BP as a Personnel officer. He gave BP his best 30% effort and, after another few years actually did make the leap and became a full time composer. Music for corporate led to music for television, which led to music for live events, which led to TV commercials etc… etc…

Jack Buckner

Jack Buckner

Jack gained an interest in sound production when he realised he wasn’t destined to become a rock star. From there he went onto De Montfort University, getting himself a degree in Audio and Recording Technology. During this time, he started working with ECG. It’s been 5 years now, and we can’t get rid of him. That said, he is irritatingly good at taking what we have done and turning it into a great sound. We don’t tell him that, of course, we just say it sounds OK.

Peter Hartshorne

Peter Hartshorne

As a qualified commercial pilot, Peter is perfectly suited to the role of composer. It must be his love of instruments that enables him to bridge the gap between the flight deck and a piano. Peter’s love of music started in the womb when his mother and father would often sing a variety of soothing tunes – Highway to Hell, Sympathy for the Devil, etc. – instilling in him the very essence of Ex Cantibus Gaudium that transcends to this day.

It was in 2008 when Robert suggested he have a crack at writing some music for a new job that had just come in. It was good! In fact, so much so that Robert had to grudgingly say “Yeah, it’s OK-ish” Since then, Peter has been an integral part of the business.

Karen Smith

Karen Smith

Every business should have a ‘Karen’. The organizational dynamo that keeps everything running and everybody on track! Without her who would ensure that the accountants are supplied with everything they need.  As if by magic flights and hotels get booked, visas and money organized and in the blink of an eye the piles of filing disappear into the filing cabinets. Deadlines are met, invoices raised, paid and is usually one step ahead of anything that looks like it could give a bumpy ride.  In short, she is the cavalry with the solution …and she’s got a gun.

Jonathan Smith

Jonathan Smith

Straight from school with a desire to enter the media arena, Jonathan ended up at ECG. No matter – he does have a passionate love of music, how it works and how to make it!  Keen to try his hand at any new task learning all the time.  Up for the challenge of a project to demonstrate his budding entrepreneurial skills and ability of thinking outside of the box …and just the kind of guy we need to dump on the impossible tasks!
